The total market capitalization for tokenized real-world assets reached $38 billion today, marking a major expansion for on-chain finance. This milestone reflects growing institutional adoption of blockchain technology to represent traditional assets.

On-chain data aggregator Token Terminal reported the figure, showing a 25 percent increase in market value since Jan. This growth is concentrated in tokenized U.S. Treasuries and private credit pools.

BlackRock's BUIDL fund, tokenizing U.S. Treasury bills on the Ethereum blockchain, now holds over $1.2 billion in assets under management. Franklin Templeton's OnChain U.S. Government Money Market Fund expanded past $800 million. These products offer institutional investors exposure to yield-bearing assets directly on-chain.

The yield on a tokenized six-month Treasury bill currently sits at 5.2 percent, accessible 24/7. This contrasts with traditional markets, which operate during business hours and involve multiple intermediaries.

MakerDAO's direct integration of U.S. Treasury bills into its reserves has driven over $3 billion into RWA protocols. The protocol uses these tokenized assets as collateral for its DAI stablecoin, strengthening its balance sheet with low-risk, yield-generating instruments.

Other DeFi protocols like Centrifuge and Ondo Finance are seeing increased activity. Centrifuge's total value locked for private credit pools now stands at $280 million, up 15 percent this quarter. Ondo Finance offers tokenized U.S. Treasuries and money market funds directly to accredited investors.

The $38 billion RWA market signals a bridge between traditional finance and decentralized ledgers. It validates blockchain's utility beyond speculative assets, demonstrating its power for efficient asset transfer and settlement. As more institutional players enter, demand for underlying blockchain infrastructure—including secure layer-1s and robust oracle networks—will intensify.

Bitcoin trades at $77,489 and Ethereum at $2,138, holding steady during this RWA expansion. The RWA narrative provides a tangible use case for blockchain, attracting capital that might otherwise remain in traditional markets.
