SAN FRANCISCO — Somnus Innovations launched its Core Pillow, an integrated sleep device designed to replace traditional wearables. The pillow embeds bone-conduction audio and vibration motors, offering a passive alternative to in-ear sleepbuds or wrist-worn trackers. The product targets a $40 billion global sleep technology market.
The company sells direct to consumers, bypassing retail markups to hold the Core Pillow at $149—undercutting premium sleepbuds that often sell for more than $250. Somnus projects a 65 percent gross margin on hardware, driven by optimized manufacturing and supply chain agreements in Vietnam.
Beyond hardware, Somnus plans a premium subscription tier at $9.99 per month offering advanced sleep analytics, personalized soundscapes and smart home integration. Data from the pillow's embedded sensors feeds continuous algorithm refinement and builds a proprietary dataset for future product development.
Somnus raised $35 million in its Series A round in May, allocating 40 percent to research and development for next-generation materials and sensor miniaturization. The remaining capital funds digital marketing and production scaling. The company has acquired 150,000 users since its soft launch in March, primarily through social media channels.
The Core Pillow's passive design is its core competitive argument: where existing sleep tech demands active user engagement, Somnus integrates into a routine without asking anything of the sleeper. That framing could expand the addressable market beyond early adopters of sleep wearables.
