Bitcoin ended the week with a 1.6 percent gain, masking a sharp divergence in on-chain capital allocation. DePIN and crypto gaming protocols drew fresh liquidity while Ethereum Layer 2s and the tokenized real-world asset trade continued to bleed.
Within DePIN, Render Network and Filecoin posted increased activity. Render coordinates decentralized GPU rendering; Filecoin handles distributed storage. Both rely on token emissions to align contributors who supply off-chain resources, tying on-chain incentives directly to physical infrastructure utilization.
Crypto gaming saw renewed inflows as well, with transaction volumes rising on Immutable X and Ronin. Immutable X runs a zkEVM rollup optimized for NFT and gaming throughput; Ronin remains the chain underpinning Axie Infinity's economy. The uptick suggests rotation toward protocols with consumer-facing applications and established token economies rather than pure yield or infrastructure scaling plays.
L2s, by contrast, saw sustained outflows and softening sentiment. Competition among Arbitrum, Optimism, zkSync and Starknet appears to be fragmenting liquidity, making it harder for any single chain to sustain TVL momentum as the sector matures.
The tokenized RWA trade also continued to contract. Ondo Finance's OUSG and BlackRock's BUIDL fund both recorded reduced net inflows, signaling softer demand for stable, yield-bearing on-chain assets.
The retreat from the treasury trade points to a re-evaluation of risk-reward dynamics. On-chain Treasury yields remain competitive, but stablecoin liquidity is rotating toward higher-beta sectors in search of alpha—even as Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh holds a firm line on interest rates.
Gaming protocols building on NFT-based asset ownership and token reward loops are targeting durable user bases rather than short-cycle play-to-earn mechanics. That shift toward product quality and genuine player engagement is part of what appears to be drawing longer-term capital.
The outflows from L2s and RWAs do not amount to a rejection of their underlying mechanics. L2s remain core scaling infrastructure, and tokenized RWAs offer a direct bridge between traditional fixed-income markets and DeFi liquidity. Current sentiment has simply moved elsewhere.
This week's flows reflect a more selective DeFi market—one distinguishing between infrastructure, yield and application layers based on near-term growth vectors rather than broad sector exposure.
