Jadeveon Clowney is returning to the Houston Texans, rejoining the team that selected him No. 1 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft.
The 33-year-old edge rusher recorded 29 sacks across his initial five seasons in Houston — nearly half of his 66.5 career sacks.
In his final two seasons of that first stint, Clowney combined for 18½ sacks before then-coach Bill O'Brien traded him to the Seattle Seahawks. That deal sent a third-round draft pick, Barkevious Mingo and Jacob Martin to the Texans.
Clowney spent last season with the Dallas Cowboys, playing in 13 games. He finished with 8.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss and 22 quarterback pressures.
This is a sensible move for Houston. Clowney never became the franchise centerpiece many projected for a No. 1 pick, but he has been a productive player across multiple teams and his 2024 Cowboys numbers show he can still contribute. The Texans get a veteran pass rusher who produces in short-term stints — exactly what a defensive front competing in the AFC needs.
