WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Boston Red Sox beat the Athletics 5-4 on Thursday night at Sutter Health Park, powered by back-to-back home runs from Wilyer Abreu and Willson Contreras in the eighth inning.
The two connected on consecutive pitches to erase a one-run deficit and hand Boston its first lead of the game. The win also secured the series for the Red Sox.
Abreu became the first Red Sox player to record back-to-back multi-home run games since Mookie Betts did so in 2016. Both Abreu and Contreras had been slumping heading into the game.
