Aave's risk management service LlamaRisk has recommended a wind-down of the lending protocol's V3 markets across six blockchains, targeting $98.1 million in supplied assets and $15.6 million in outstanding debt.

The Aave Request for Comment (ARFC) proposes retiring all 25 reserves on Sonic, Scroll, zkSync, Metis, Soneium and Aptos. It also recommends offboarding 50 low-use reserves and 21 matured Pendle principal token listings across 11 total deployments.

Balances underpinning the proposal were measured on July 28. LlamaRisk collaborated with other Aave service providers on the assessment informing the recommendations.

Most of the targeted V3 instances already faced restrictions. Reserves on Scroll, zkSync, Metis and Soneium were previously frozen. The ARFC recommends freezing the remaining active deployments on Sonic and Aptos.

The consolidation follows a Dec. 5, 2025, temperature check on Aave's multichain strategy. The community vote concluded with 923,400 votes in favor and under 1 percent against measures including increasing reserve factors on underperforming instances and shutting down zkSync, Metis and Soneium.

The proposal also reflects Aave's updated risk framework, published June 9, which establishes criteria for winding down reserves or deployments and covers asset, bridge, monitoring and chain risk.

Aptos' Aave V3 market, launched 11 months ago, illustrates the performance issues driving the proposal. Its available liquidity dropped 94 percent over six months, generating less than $1,000 in quarterly revenue, according to LlamaRisk.

Scroll was added to the affected list through an accelerated process in April. LlamaRisk filed a direct-to-AIP proposal to freeze all Scroll reserves, citing rapid deterioration in network liquidity and Aave market activity.

Aave founder Stani Kulechov said the move will "reduce Aave's economic and technical risk surface as part of the new Aave Risk Framework and Technical Asset Listing Framework."

Kulechov also said the action is a strategic refocusing, not a reversal of Aave's broader multichain expansion, adding that Aave will "continue applying continuous risk assessment for all assets across all deployments."

The ARFC is a precursor to an Aave Improvement Proposal (AIP) and requires a subsequent on-chain governance vote for final execution.

Aave has continued expanding elsewhere, including a recent launch on Avalanche.
