Wilyer Abreu of the Boston Red Sox received the American League Player of the Week award. Drake Baldwin of the Atlanta Braves earned the National League Player of the Week honor, according to an official press release.

Several other players were recognized as candidates for Play of the Week across MLB, including Tyler O'Neill for an outfield assist in extra innings and Ernie Clement for a strong jump throw in the Midsummer Classic.

Additional candidates included Ceddanne Rafaela of the Boston Red Sox for a diving catch, Joshua Kuroda-Grauer for a diving catch and Colt Emerson for a diving play.

Rafaela, a Curaçaoan professional, made his MLB debut in 2023 after signing with Boston as an international free agent.

His performance over a 12-game hitting streak from July 2-19 was sharp: a.391 average with a 1.252 OPS. Over that span he collected 18 hits in 46 at-bats, scored 10 runs, recorded six doubles, hit five home runs, drove in 15 runs, drew one walk and stole two bases.

Over a broader 23-game stretch from June 20-July 19, Rafaela hit.337 with a 1.093 OPS, going 29-for-86 with 10 doubles and eight home runs while driving in 22 runs. His 10 doubles tied for the MLB lead during that period, and his 18 extra-base hits led the league outright. His.733 slugging percentage ranked third in MLB, his 1.093 OPS sixth and his 22 RBI tied for sixth.

From July 4-11, Rafaela drove in at least one run in seven straight games, totaling 13 RBI — the longest active RBI streak in MLB at the time. He also scored at least one run in each of those seven games, making him only the third Red Sox player aged 24 or younger to record a streak of seven or more games with both a run scored and an RBI. He joins Ted Williams, who had an eight-game streak in 1942, and Duffy Lewis, who had a seven-game streak in 1912.

Earlier in the season, on May 5, Rafaela drove in four runs in a single game. He hit a home run off Framber Valdez with an exit velocity of 98 mph, traveling 362 feet, then singled off Valdez at 99.5 mph.

Dating back to April 25, Rafaela hit 13-for-38 — a.342 average and a 152 wRC+. Four of those 13 hits went for extra bases.
